Download Best Link Manager

For the desktop Word and Excel apps in Microsoft 365, on Windows

Installing

Close Word, then run BestLinkManager.msi. Windows will show a few security prompts along the way; this is normal for a small independent add-in. Here's what to click:

  1. Your browser may say the file "isn't commonly downloaded". Choose Keep (in Edge: ... › Keep › Keep anyway).
  2. "Windows protected your PC": click More info, then Run anyway.
  3. "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?": click Yes. The add-in installs into Program Files, which needs administrator permission.
  4. A small progress window appears for a few seconds and closes by itself. That's it.

Open Word and you'll see a new Links tab on the ribbon.

The installer needs .NET Framework 4.8 and the Microsoft Office add-in runtime, which come with Windows 10/11 and Microsoft 365. If either is missing, the installer tells you what to install.

Activating

  1. On the Links tab, click License (or click any button; you'll be asked for your key).
  2. Paste the license key from your purchase email and click Activate.

Don't have a key yet? Buy a license. Each license works on 2 computers.

Next: the Guide walks you through creating a named range in Excel and inserting your first link.

Updating

To get a newer version, download the installer from this page again and run it. It replaces the old version, and your license stays activated. To see which version you have, click License on the Links tab.

Uninstalling

First click License › Deactivate This Computer if you want to use your license on another computer. Then open Windows Settings › Apps, find Best Link Manager, and choose Uninstall.
